El del pasado jueves 24 de mayo, fue tal vez el consejo de redacción más triste que ha tenido el semanario VOZ desde el asesinato de Manuel Cepeda en el 94. Era difícil pensarse en medio de las lágrimas y el dolor los temas de una nueva edición. Un hálito de nostalgia poblaba toda la sede del periódico, la noche anterior se había anunciado el fallecimiento de quien desde hace casi 30 años había sido el faro de esta familia; en medio de ese difícil momento solo había algo claro: el trabajo no podía parar.

Desde que se conoció la noticia, el nombre de Carlos Lozano fue tendencia en redes sociales, personalidades de la política como el presidente Juan Manuel Santos, el expresidente Ernesto Samper, senadores de la República, representantes, viejos amigos de otras posturas políticas como Alfonso Gómez Méndez, su excamarada de la Juventud Comunista y Álvaro Leyva, su compañero e interlocutor en distintos procesos y diálogos de paz. Se destacó el cubrimiento de cientos de medios alternativos y masivos en el ámbito nacional e internacional, siempre describiéndolo como un periodista implacable, firme en sus convicciones políticas y comprometido con la justicia social. Los saludos llegaron de diversas organizaciones políticas y sociales que resaltaron el trabajo de Carlos por la soberanía de los pueblos oprimidos.

Durante dos días se reunieron en Bogotá cuatro generaciones de comunistas para honrar la memoria de Carlos Arturo Lozano Guillén, desde sus viejos colegas e integrantes del semanario que resistieron los años más duros de persecuciones, asesinatos y desapariciones, hasta los jóvenes universitarios de la JUCO que lo conocieron en su faceta más histórica, la de constructor y artífice de la paz.

El funeral fue un lugar de encuentro donde asistieron líderes de las diferentes corrientes de la izquierda, muchos no se veían desde hacía décadas, tal vez desde los tiempos en los que el conflicto nos fracturó como sociedad y como movimiento social.

Cálida despedida

La tristeza de la familia Lozano Sierra, su esposa Faride, sus hijos Carlos, Catalina, Marco y Natalia, y sus nietos Valentina y Carlos Arturo, fue soportada gracias a la inmensa solidaridad demostrada por sus amigos y camaradas más allegados.

Entre consignas y cantando La Internacional, Jaime Caycedo, secretario general del Partido Comunista Colombiano, dio la despedida a uno de los mejores cuadros de la organización: “Te marchas, pero aquí está tu Partido con las banderas en alto, que no las abandonará y las llevará hasta el final, hasta las últimas consecuencias de esta lucha del pueblo colombiano”. Aída Avella, presidenta de la Unión Patriótica lo recordó como un líder de la unidad de los comunistas e invitó a todos a recordarlo a través la práctica y la ética revolucionaria.

En su discurso de homenaje, su hijo Carlos Lozano Sierra recordó que en su padre se sintetizaron tres aspectos de la vida política y social de los últimos 30 años, el primero, el trabajo constante por la democratización de los medios de comunicación alternativos, por el acceso libre a la información; segundo, su empeño por la paz y las transformaciones, por encontrar la salida negociada al conflicto armado a pesar de las intranquilidad que vivió la familia por los atentados y amenazas; y tercero, la lucha por la unidad de los comunistas, “honrar esa lucha es lo que nos permitirá transformar este país desde abajo”.

Alberto Acevedo, periodista desde hace 40 años en el semanario VOZ, habló en representación del equipo, exaltó su consecuencia y su solidaridad expresada a través del periodismo, la importancia del periódico en la formación de la conciencia de clase de los trabajadores, estudiantes y campesinos: “Somos unos privilegiados porque aprendimos de un gran maestro, que el periodismo que no vacila en la defensa de los intereses populares”.

Dirigentes del regional Mario Upegui, de la Juventud Comunista y del Partido FARC, recordaron todos esos viajes que hizo Lozano a lomo de mula y con las botas llenas de barro, donde visitaba los campamentos guerrilleros, no sólo para contar la realidad que ellos vivían, sino para ser el heraldo de ese mensaje de reconciliación. “Lo recordaré como un soñador alegre y comprometido; VOZ fue el alimento político en los años más duros que impusieron en la lucha armada, recuerdo sus largas conversaciones con el camarada Manuel Marulanda”, cuenta con voz entrecortada Sandra Ramírez, lideresa de la FARC.

En consecuencia con el legado, la Juventud Comunista realizará su 16 congreso este año en homenaje a Lozano en la ciudad de Ibagué, lugar en el que nació.

Diferentes camaradas hicieron un reconocimiento especial al cuerpo de seguridad que durante tantos años lo acompañó y lo cuidó de ese enemigo grande que tenía, de esas fuerzas oscuras que quisieron callar su trabajo investigativo, la verdad que este revelaba. El grupo de escoltas con el que compartió tantos momentos se veía muy afectado, eran amigos muy cercanos, uno de ellos expresó al dejar el féretro: “De esta no te pudimos salvar camarada”.

Como lo dijo Carlos junior: ¡Tarea cumplida camaradas!, el legado de nuestro director, de nuestro líder, queda en la historia como una labor fundamental para sentar las bases de una Colombia más democrática y justa, y aunque el camino para superar este conflicto social aún se está construyendo, este momento es el punto de partida para hacer honor al lema de nuestro ilustre compañero: ¡La paz sí es posible!
