Un descendiente de los indios Yurbacos, un artista comprometido con su pueblo. Julián Conrado desafía la política tradicional amparado en su “amor por Turbaco”.

En su pueblo, “allá donde la brisa suena como canción”, Guillermo Torres Cuéter desafía el poder económico y político tradicional y se perfila como el más opcionado entre los candidatos a la alcaldía de ese municipio en las elecciones de octubre. Su postulación ha desatado la alegría de los más humildes, que por décadas vieron como las administraciones de turno saqueaban los recursos del municipio, burlando los anhelos más elementales, aquellos relacionados con servicios públicos domiciliarios de buena calidad, educación, salud, empleo y vivienda digna.

Guillermo Torres es un hombre de corazón limpio que, como muchos jóvenes de su generación, perseguido y agobiado por la falta de garantías políticas, se fue a las montañas y adoptando el nombre de Julián Conrado pidió ingreso en las filas de la insurgencia fariana y con las notas de su coterráneo César Pollerín cantó: “voy camino de la sierra, porque en la ciudad veo mi destino incierto, y aunque vaya para el monte voy con emoción y el corazón contento…”.

Todo este fenómeno político surgió cuando Guillermo Torres, tras la firma de los Acuerdos de Paz, retornó a su natal Turbaco, después de tres décadas de ausencia originada por su vinculación a la insurgencia de las FARC-EP a mediados de los 80s. Sus contemporáneos lo recordaban con cariño y los más jóvenes le contaron que sus padres y abuelos les habían hablado de él como una esperanza y les encomendaron que si algún día regresaba, lo eligieran alcalde de Turbaco.

Por eso hoy con las notas de su himno cantan: “Las mujeres y los hombres turbaqueros rehicieron lo que el odio destruyó”, que no es otra cosa que la esperanza, la confianza y el amor; de ahí el lema de su campaña: “amando venceremos”

Guitarra en mano, haciendo escuchar su voz ronca y altanera, Guillermo Torres enseña a su pueblo que la paz es justicia social en contra de la inequidad; así lo expresa en su canción: “Cuando vayas a cantar, canta como un pajarito, que ese si canta bonito, porque lo hace sin cobrar, hermoso el mundo animal porque no hay pobres ni ricos, toditos son igualitos, si la gente fuera igual”
