Académicos colombianos piden respaldar reconocimiento a Palestina

Un grupo de académicos celebró aquí la decisión del expresidente Juan Manuel Santos de reconocer al Estado de Palestina y pidió al nuevo gobierno de Iván Duque sostener la medida.

La carta enviada a Duque por sesenta profesores universitarios, columnistas de medios de prensa y especialistas en relaciones internacionales se conoció luego de que el canciller, Carlos Holmes, anunciara la revisión actual de la medida.

Holmes admitió que la decisión de Santos les fue notificada antes de la posesión del presidente Iván Duque. Sin embargo, tras jurar su cargo y oficializarse la medida, el actual gobierno informó que convocará a la Comisión Asesora de Relaciones Exteriores para brindar su concepto al respecto.

Los firmantes insistieron en que el reconocimiento de Palestina como estado soberano e independiente es una contribución a la búsqueda de una salida negociada al conflicto de ese territorio con Israel.

‘Esperamos que usted, como mandatario de los colombianos, respalde tan plausible decisión, y como miembro activo de la comunidad internacional, trabajemos para lograr un Oriente Medio en paz’, señala el texto.

Frente a los reclamos de Israel, los académicos enfatizaron en que el paso dado por Colombia no debería alejarlos de sus aliados y amigos, por el contrario debería valorarse como una contribución a la búsqueda de soluciones a ese conflicto.

‘Revertir el reconocimiento del Estado de Palestina nos dejaría por fuera del marco legal internacional y debilitaría la proyección de coherencia y responsabilidad de la política exterior de Colombia en los escenarios regionales y globales’, añade el texto.

Desde 2012, Palestina es Estado observador no miembro de las Naciones Unidas, mediante la resolución 67/19 de la Asamblea General, que recibió un respaldo categórico de 138 votos a favor, nueve en contra y 41 abstenciones.
